Laser Therapy (Photobiomodulation)

Laser therapy, or photobiomodulation, is a treatment that uses focused light to stimulate cellular metabolism, ultimately reducing levels of pain and improving overall function. This non-invasive process infuses injured tissue with photons, triggering a series of events that lead to increased cellular metabolism, less pain, and better blood flow to the injured area. To maximize the depth of tissue reached, wavelength and significant power are crucial to how well the light penetrates the body and gets into the damaged tissue. By using light and energy to change the condition of damaged tissue, the recovery process is accelerated, and the severity of symptoms is scaled back with consistent, weekly treatment.

Laser therapy is an FDA-approved process that can be used to recover from acute and chronic pain and get you back to your regularly scheduled life activities. Over 4,000 studies have proven this method to be a highly effective treatment for a variety of muscle and joint issues.

Non-Invasive Treatment for Pain Management

At Souldance Wellness, we use a 25W LightForce Class IV Laser that delivers more highly powered energy to deep tissue structures. The higher wattage results in significantly deeper penetration than a Class III laser offers, producing desired outcomes that can be obtained repeatedly. To reach the appropriate dose of light for each patient, their entire profile must be considered in reaching the exact treatment that’s right for them. This means accounting for things like skin color, bone density, and muscle content. Once the tools are adjusted, a warm light source is placed on the skin and the photons are absorbed by the mitochondria, triggering natural responses of the cell at a faster rate.

Pain can become more manageable for short-term injuries like a broken bone and more chronic issues like arthritis.

Other conditions laser therapy is clinically used for can be:

  • Neck and back pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Sciatica
  • Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)
  • Soft tissue damage

Benefits of Laser Therapy

Laser therapy could be a great option for your pain and discomfort. This therapeutic approach to pain relief can be used with other modalities and treatments to achieve a more natural way to promote tissue repair. Benefits of this cutting-edge technology designed for your comfortable recovery include but are not limited to:

  • Reduced pain and inflammation
  • Improved peripheral nerve function
  • Stimulated trigger and acupuncture points
  • Promoted microcirculation
  • Increased mobility and range of motion

What to Expect During the Process

Depending on the injured area and depth of penetration needed, laser therapy sessions typically last between 3-10 minutes. Patients often feel the warm effects of laser therapy immediately after, with results lasting longer and being more effective in those receiving a few sessions a week. There are no known significant side effects and the process itself is reported to be a relaxing, enjoyable experience.

Recovery doesn’t have to be a painful process. Let our team at Souldance Wellness customize a non-invasive solution for you. Laser therapy may be one of many tools we have to help you manage pain. If you would like to find out if this treatment option is for you, call us at (541) 678-3564 or request an appointment to meet with our physician and understand your options for pain relief.
